Cleansing Oil that Leaves My Skin Moisturized (Skincare Review)

June 6, 2014 Katie Marie 16 Comments

I love bringing reviews to you all on LoaW and I really hope they help you get a feel for the product/item so that it helps you in your shopping.

Today I have a skincare review on a relatively new product from Garnier. 🙂 If you’ve seen something new in the drugstores or online that you’d like me to review, drop me a comment below and let me know. I love hearing from you guys!! 🙂

I wasn’t given this product to review — I picked it up myself to try out and wanted to share my thoughts with you all. 🙂

About Garnier Clean+ – Nourishing Cleansing Oil…

Dry skin types have different cleansing needs in order to look and feel their best.

Often,
the wrong face scrubs are used for specific skin concerns.  As a
result, skin does not get the right care it needs to look and feel its
best.  Customized Cleansing + Skin Type Specific Care-  Customized
Cleansing:  Garnier Clean + Nourishing Cleansing Oil instantly dissolves
impurities and long-wear makeup with no greasy residue.  Skin Type
Specific Care:  Formula, infused with nourishing Jojoba and Macadamia
Oil, helps replenish skin’s moisture balance.  In 1 use:  Skin is deeply
cleaned, hydrated and skin feels velvety soft.  After 1 week:  100% of
women felt skin was smoother and softer.  Not just a Better Clean,
Better Skin.

Made in USA

My Review…

First Impression…
Using cleansing oils in your skincare routine seems to be a new fad this year and I’ve been really intrigued to see if it would work well for my skin type. I have acne-prone skin and I hear that cleansing oils are a less-harsh method of cleaning your face, so I was all about trying this Nourishing Cleansing Oil out and seeing if it would help keep my outbreaks at bay.

Packaging…
It’s in a really sleek, tall bottle with a white pump at the top. It dispenses a decent amount into the palm of your hand; I personal use about a pump and a half on my face when I go to take my makeup off. The bottle has 4.2 fl oz of product in it and for the price — $7.99 — that’s a decent amount. Especially when you compare the price and quantity of other cleansing oils that are currently out there.

I do have one complaint with the packaging — it leaks. I think it’s something with the pump. I feel that each time I use it, a little leaks out from underneath the nozzle. Every time I pull this out of m drawer, there’s a little oil puddle around it. It’s not a significant amount that makes me worry it’s being wasted, but just annoying. And I know it’s not just me — I’ve read other reviews that say this as well. So it’d be really nice if Garnier could figure that out and fix it. 🙂

Product & Application…
As I said above, I use about a pump and a half of Nourishing Cleansing Oil to massage into my face for a few minutes. Then I get my hands wet with a bit of water and massage that in till I get a milky-white consistency. Then I just rinsed it all off. 🙂 It worked really well in getting ALL of my makeup off! And I mean all — I checked with a little toning water and a cotton pad to make sure I had no makeup residue left over, and there wasn’t any left over on the pad. So I’m very happy — I like using cleansing oil to take off my makeup MUCH better than using the Pond’s Cold Cream Cleanser.

Any Major Likes & Dislikes…
I like how well it cleanses my face, definitely! 🙂 I also love how moisturized and smooth-feeling it leaves my skin! Not in the least bit dry or tight. I almost feel like I don’t need to moisturized (though I do, I promise! ;-).

I don’t like that it leaks, which is probably the biggest dislike I have about this product.

Final Thoughts…

I love it! This is my first cleansing oil I’ve ever used, so I don’t know how it compares to other ones out there. But I do know I like it more than cold cream cleansers or makeup remover wipes. It’s a lot easier than the cream to wash off (and not be left feeling greasy) and it’s more thorough and gentle on my skin than the wipes. I also LOVE that it includes macadamia and jojoba oil — two oils that I really love! All around, this is a great product and I definitely recommend you check it out the next time you’re at the drugstore. Especially if you want to try out adding a cleansing oil into your routine.

This product was purchased with my own money 🙂

Question for My Readers: What do you like to use to remove your makeup at the end of the day? Have you tried any cleansing oils yourself?

The (Much Anticipated) FINAL ‘Hairstyling with NuMe’ Tutorial!

June 3, 2014 Katie Marie 23 Comments

Yes! It’s finally here! I am so sorry that this post took over a month after my marriage, but…I won’t bore you with excuses. I promise you, though, I’ve been keeping super busy moving into our new home and settling on the other side of the United States with my new hubby. 😀

There’s going to be a lot of information in this post, so let’s just get right in with the final ‘Hairstyling with NuMe’ post!

Wedding Hairstyle Tutorial

First off, before we get into the fun information, let’s talk about my wedding hair. As those of you who’ve been following my blog for a while know, I styled my own hair for my wedding using the NuMe Titan3 curling wand set. And it turned out FABULOUS! So here’s how I did it. 🙂

Step 1: Curl!

As always, I like to start with curling my hair so that I have a lot of body in my style when I pin my hair up. 🙂 I used the smallest barrel out of the Titan3 set and it worked wonders at giving my awesome, long-lasting curls!

Step 2: Braid the Right Side & Pin

Okay, so what I wanted to do was combine both braids and twists into this curly hairstyle. So I decided to do a french braid starting near the front, right hairline and adding hair all the way back until I got just past my ear. From there, I just continued with a regular braid until I was almost at the end.

Then I laid my braid back against my hair and pinned it in place. I made sure to taper of the braid just before I got to the left side. Don’t worry about securing the braid with a pin — just leave it loose. We will cover the braid over with a curl in the next steps so it all looks very seamless. 🙂

Step 3: Twist Back the Left Side & Pin

Okay, so for the left side, I took the chunk of hair from my front hairline back to my ear and twisted it really tightly and distinctly against my head. Nothing special, at all, just try to make the twist really obvious and stand out. Pin it in place as you go.

Continue twisting your hair back until you overlap the braid that you pinned in the back. I twisted it till I reached about the middle of my head, then continue to place pins wherever I felt it needed more support.

Step 4: Tie on Your Pearls

Okay, so first off, let me explain how I made these. They are nothing pretty, and you could probably find them online already made for you, but since I had an old pearl headband that was falling apart…I decided to save the pennies and make them. All I did was use black string to tie the pearls onto a small elastic black band (like the kinda you can get at Sally’s Beauty Supply). Prest-o — you’re very own pearl ties. 🙂

Now is when you can let your creativity show! Just start tying those pearls sporadically throughout the hairstyle. My mother’s wedding dress had pearls on the front, and I really wanted my hairstyle to look like it had sprinkles of pearls throughout — almost like pearls were just magically floating. 😀

Step 5: Add Random Braids

I wanted more braids in the hairstyle, so what I did was randomly go around my head and add really small, thin braids. I secure these (of course) with the pearl elastic rubber bands and twisted them around the curling wand for a few seconds so that the braids blend easily into the curls.

Add as many or as few as you want — I think I did about 5 or 6. Whatever you’re feeling and however obvious you want it to be. Just make it our own!

AND YOUR DONE!

And you’re done! This is how it looks!!!!

Also, something I added right before the wedding, was to buy some pins that had pearls on the end and I slide them into my hairstyle along the twist and braid. So it kind of gave me a pearly crown on my wedding day, as you can see from this picture below 🙂

I hope y’all enjoyed this tutorial. And when I do my post on my wedding, I’ll be sure to add more pictures of my hair. NuMe’s Titan3 did an OUTSTANDING job at keeping my curls fresh. I did my hair at 10 o’clock Saturday morning, and at 8 PM — when we finally headed to the honeymoon — they all still looked awesome. The picture you see of me above was at least 6 hours from when I originally curled them — and they look awesome! I didn’t need to re-curl any strands at all throughout the day. Loved it!

About the Arvazallia Professional Series…

customers around the world and is now available to you as part of the

and we back that up with a 100% Money Back Guarantee. If you don’t
absolutely love an Arvazallia product that you’ve purchased from us we
will give you a 100% refund.

My First Impression Review…

Packaging…
Both the Hydrating Argan Oil Mask and the Premium Argan Oil Hair Treatment are packaged in very elegant and professional-looking bottles. The hair treatment is in a tall glass bottle with a silver pump that dispenses about a nickle-sized amount. The mask is in a plastic bowl-like container that has a secure lid you twist to secure. The Arvazallia brand knows how to present their products well — it meets my approval in both practicality and presentation!

Product and Ease of Use…
Hydrating Argan Oil Mask – Because of the way it’s packaged, it makes it very easy to scoop out the product to run through your hair. The fragrance that this mask has is fairly nice. Not overwhelmingly floral or anything, but not a bad scent either. I think it’s nice, and considering that you wash it out afterwards, it doesn’t matter too much either way. I’ve started using this about twice a week, really focusing on my (horrible) split-ends, and leave it in for about 10 minutes before I rinse it out. My hair feels amazing after letting the mask sit in my hair — even while I am just rinsing it out, I can already feel how moisturized and hydrated my hair is!

Premium Argan Oil Hair Treatment – As I already mentioned above, the hair treatment is dispensed with a little pump that squirts about a nickle-sized amount of oil. I have to use several pumps for my long hair, but I love the way Argan Oil makes my hair feel! It really cuts back on the frizz and helps to tame my split ends. The fragrance of the oil is really nice. Leaves my hair smelling good – my husband’s even commented on it. 🙂 I like using the oil at least once a day, even when I don’t wash my hair. It really helps to keep my ends nourished, which I love!

Any Major Likes & Dislikes…

There really isn’t any cons that I have found in this product. I haven’t been using it long (which is why this is a “first impression review”), but so far I have no complaints at all. The products retail for $45 and $40 – kind of pricey – but right now they are on sale on Amazon for only $17.99 and $15.99. Which isn’t a bad price for these products at all! The treatment will last me for several months and, depending on how much hair you have, the mask can last you a long time as well. Oh, and I love that the oil treatment has a fragrance — I love using products that leave my hair smelling nice. 🙂

Final Thoughts…
I LOVE the way the Hydrating Argan Oil Mask and Premium Argan Oil Hair Treatment leaves my hair. I haven’t been able to tell, yet, how it helps my split ends, but these
products have definitely revived and moisturized my dry hair a LOT since I
started using them! I’m excited to see how they continue to improve my hair in the weeks ahead.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free from Arvazallia, sponsored through BrandBacker. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Attention: Both of these products are currently on sale on Amazon for less than half the price. I have no idea how long this sale will last, but you are definitely getting a good deal! The mask is over 8 oz and the treatment is over 3 oz. And don’t forget that Arvazallia has a 100% satisfaction guaranteed!

Question for My Readers: What do you use to maintain your hair? Just shampoo & conditioner? A mask once a week? Argan oil? I would love to know!

Pretty Journal’s made from Recycled Materials! (Giveaway & Review)

May 21, 2014 Katie Marie 5 Comments

Hey strangers! I am so sorry that I have been away much longer than I ever imagined. Being married has kept me much busier than I ever imagined, but it is starting to slow down a bit, so this next week I hope to get back into my normal blogging routine — and do my last Hairstyling with NuMe post where I show you how I did my hair for my wedding! 😀

But for today, I just realized that I have two reviews due this week. So I’m going to be sharing one f them with you today. I also have, on my ever-growing “To-Post” list, to do a post with pictures from my wedding and also let y’all know what I’ve been up to since my wedding on April 26th. Would y’all be interested in seeing some pictures? If you would, I’ll definitely get it up ASAP. 🙂

I’m so glad to be “almost” back into blogging again. I really missed interacting with you guys on here!

Anywho, let’s dive into this review!

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

From Lavishy — “Our designs are our points of view how the world and our life can be. Be good, be beautiful, be creative, and have fun.”

My Review…

Packaging & Appearance…
I really love the look of these journals! Lavishy sells many different designs, but this is the one that stood out to me the most, and seeing it in person is even better. I love the warm tan/brown/black color of the background and I think the bird (a swallow, I believe) is so pretty! And there are other cut little decorative items randomly sprinkled on the front and back cover — from a 10 cent stamp to the tips of a leaf. I love everything about the look of this journal!

Ease of Use…
The journal has a really nice strap around it that helps keep the book closed. I like that little”protective” touch to the journals. I know it doesn’t do a whole lot (it’s not like it locks it away from prying eyes), but I always like some sort of closure on my journals. And the strap/band isn’t super tight or anything, letting you easily slip it on and off whenever you want to open the journal. The spine of the journal is pretty tight, so this definitely isn’t the journal that will just flop open and stay open, so keep that in mind. I don’t mind that fact at all.

Any Likes & Dislikes…
There’s a little pocket included in the back, which is really neat. I like the idea of being able to put little pieces of paper back there and know it’s secure. I always tend to stick random papers in my journal, so this aspect of Lavishy’s journals is definitely a plus! I am not sure how well the spine of this book will hold up over time, but that might be the only negative part to these journals…maybe. 🙂 The price is pretty good — $12 for a journal. But the fact that they are journals made from recycled wood-free paper is pretty neat. Especially if you like to buy more Eco-friendly material — this journal would definitely be something worth checking out.

Final Thoughts…
I really like Lavishy’s journals! I have always enjoyed keeping a journal, and even if you don’t you’d probably find these journals very helpful and handy. Such as for taking notes in class, church or a meeting. I like that they’re made from recycled materials, too. All in all, I give these two big thumbs up from me. 🙂

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

The Giveaway…

This giveaway is hosted by Tomoson.com, and there’s only a few more days left to enter. So if you are interested in winning one of these journals, make sure you enter TODAY!!!! Don’t miss out — anyone can enter!!!

Hairstyling with NuMe – Fancy Updo!

April 26, 2014 Katie Marie 6 Comments

Just as an update, I don’t know if I will be able to get the last post up on Wednesday, but we’ll see. 🙂 If you don’t see it then, keep an eye on my blog — it’ll come eventually! Promise!! 😉

Here’s a peak at what we are creating in today’s tutorial. Let’s dive right in. 🙂

Step 1: Curl Your Hair

This hairstyle can be started either with your natural wave or curled hair. Because my sister has such thick, straight hair, I wanted to start with some texture in the hair, so I curled everything with the medium-sized barrel from the Titan3 set, knowing and expecting to redo the curls with a smaller barrel once I finished. But if you have natural curly hair or hair that has a good wave to it, than feel free to just start with that. 🙂

Step 2: Section the Hair Off

Once you have the top section of your hair separated and pinned up, take a 1 inch section of hair near the front hairline. This is where your french braid is going to begin. 🙂

Step 3: Begin French Braiding

Now that you’ve sectioned off the top section from the bottom, you’re going to french braid all the way around the back of the head, with the bottom section.

Step 4: Secure the Braid

Once you reach the other side of the head with your braid, secure it with an elastic tie and pins, if needed.

Step 5: Section off Bangs

Now that the braid is secure, take down the top section and clip away the front hair line (or if you have bangs, clip those away).

Step 6: Smooth and Twist Top Section

Smooth out any bumps across the crown of your head and begin twisting it slightly right above where you tied the braid. Situate it so that you are hiding the elastic band. Secure with as many pins as you want or need. (I recommend these pins from Sally’s Beauty Supply. They’re really strong and work well. 🙂

Step 7: Twist Bangs Back and Pin

Now take whatever hair that was clipped out of the way (your bangs, or if you don’t have bangs, drape the hair back so that it gives you the look of bangs) and pin it back. I twisted the hair slightly as I drew it back and pinned, but however you’d like to do this, that’s up to you. Make this hairstyle your own!

Step 8: Decorate!

I always use my Lilla Rose hair accessories when I do a hairstyle, and for this one I used the hair pins. But decorate and accessorize any way you wish. 🙂

FINISHED!

And this is how the hairstyle looks!!! 😀 Hope y’all give it a try!!

Hairstyling with NuMe – Easy Braided Bun!

April 19, 2014 Katie Marie 8 Comments

I can’t believe that we’re almost to the end of the Hairstyling with NuMe series! Next week, on Friday, I will be posting one more hairstyle before my wedding. I hope to bring you my wedding hairstyle the Wednesday following my wedding, but we’ll just have to see if I have time to prepare my post before the wedding. On that final post I will share the tutorial for my wedding hairstyle that I did, as well as announcing the winner for the NuMe Curling Jam set that I’m giving away on my original Hairstyling with NuMe post. 🙂 So be on the lookout for that! 🙂

Today’s hairstyling tutorial is a quick braided bun that would be perfect for an elegant night out or your prom. 🙂

Doesn’t it look beautiful? And it’s easy to do, too! Let’s jump in!

Start with Your Natural Hair Texture

Step 1: Tie Your Hair into a Pony Tail

My sister has really thick hair, as I’m sure you’ve noticed. But this hairstyle should work well, no matter your hair density. Start by combing your hair back into a sleek ponytail directly at the center of the back of your head. If you have bangs, feel free to leave this out.

Step 2: Start Braiding, Leaving Out Sections of Hair As You Go

This part can seem a bit confusing and tricky, but it’s really not. Start braiding, and each time you cross a strand over, take a small section of hair out and let it hang free. I hope the picture above and below that I’ve created will help you understand how to do this. 🙂

Step 3: Repeat Step 2 Till You Reach the End

Continue braiding, leaving out strands of hair as you go. Once you reach the last two or three inches, don’t leave out strands — just braid as normal and tie it off with a small hair tie the same color as your hair (if possible).

Step 4: Create a Bun

Now that you have a braid, begin wrapping it around your original pony tail, as shown above. Take as many pins as you need and secure the bun as you continue to wrap it around. Tuck the tail end of your braid under the bun, so you can’t see the hair tie at the end.

Step 5: Curl the Strands of Hair that’s Left Out

Now that you have your bun, take your NuMe curling wand — whatever size you prefer, but I chose the smallest one — and curl all the strands of hair that’s hanging out of the bun. Don’t worry if it looks lopsided (like my model’s hair does :-), that will be corrected in the next step.

Step 6: Pin Up Curls Around the Braided Bun

Now’s the time to let your creativity go to work! 🙂 Begin taking the curls and pin them up around the bun, however looks best to you. For me, because one side had more hair than the other, I took the longer curls and pinned them toward the other side, to even out the hairstyle. You really can’t do this part wrong — just start pinning up one curl at a time, filling in any holes, and it’ll all come together. 🙂

I added two Lilla Rose You-Pins to the hairstyle, just to give it a little sparkle, and I was done. 🙂 This hairstyle was really easy to do — took me less than 30 minutes to do this hairstyle (and only that long because her hair is SO thick and she has so much of it! :-). It’s really quick and easy, but looks really complex. I love it!

Final Results!

Remember — don’t forget to enter the NuMe giveaway for the Curling Jam set that’s over on the original Hairstyling with NuMe post. This set is $280, so don’t miss your chance to win this all for FREE!! 😀

Question to my Readers: If you try this hairstyle out — or plan to sometime soon — let me know! I was really excited to discover this quick and easy bun and I thought you all would be, too. 🙂
