Too Faced’s Unicorn Tears took the beauty community by storm when it was released. It is such a unique shade, you can’t help but be intrigued! For some, it can be a difficult color to pull off — especially if you typically wear light or neutral makeup. Which is why I have written this post. I wanted to give you 5 different ways to wear any type of iridescent shimmer, such as this lipstick!
If you have no idea what lipstick I am talking about…this is Unicorn Tears! It really is the most unique lipstick I’ve ever owned! As you can see from the pictures, it appears mint-blue with a pink shift when applied and it leaves a pink stain when it wears away.
Now that you know what Unicorn Tears looks like, let’s take a look at the 5 ways you can wear it!
5 Ways to Rock Unicorn Tears
1 – Wear it Alone!
This is the most obvious, but I do want to point it out. While this lipstick is definitely unique and a showstopper, you can totally rock this on it’s own. It’s very unique and beautiful the way it goes from a minty blue to a pink as it warms to your lips. 🙂 It might not be appropriate to wear at your job or on a run to the grocery store, but a girl’s night out or special-holiday dinner would be the perfect time to try out this beautiful iridescent shimmer lipstick!
*Note: I know the picture makes the lipstick look patchy and maybe weird…but in person it really isn’t. It’s just really hard to pick up the shift of minty-blue and pink without it looking a tad off. In person, as I said, it’s better. 🙂
2 – Tap Lightly Over A Matte Lipstick
If you love your creamy matte lips but want to add a spark of subtle shimmer on occasion, use your finger to tap it right onto the center of your lips and blend it outwards. As you can see from the picture, it just takes your lipstick up a gentle notch. For the example I used this L’Oreal one — which I reviewed HERE — in the color Blushing Ambition.
3 – Worn Underneath a Lipstick
For this one I applied Unicorn Tears and then topped it with a liquid lipstick — reviewed here. Because there is a rich, pigmented layer on top, not a whole lot of shimmer comes through, giving it the most subtle shimmer that will, as it wear away, show up more and more.
4 – Apply, Wipe Off, Apply a Gloss
If you like shimmer, but need to take it down a notch, this is the perfect way to wear it. After applying it like you normally would, carefully remove it with a tissue. Don’t worry, this iridescent shimmer will leave a LOT of sparkle behind. And then just top with your favorite moisturizing gloss. This one — reviewed here — gives off just a hint of pink and is perfect to allow the shimmer to come through.
5 – On Top of Matte Liquid Lipsticks
Now we come to my favorite way to wear shimmer! I like this the best because I don’t have to worry about transferring the glitter/shimmer everywhere. 🙂 All I do is apply my favorite liquid lipstick (In this picture I am using this liquid lipstick from Stila) and, before it dries, I dab on the lipstick. I don’t swipe it on from the tube, but use my finger to get a light layer. Than it dries, and you’re left with this! I love it!
And there you have it, a few ways to rock Too Faced’s Unicorn Tears. It’s a lot of fun to try something crazy on occasion — even if it’s just for yourself when you have a night in. 😉

I guess I’m a little out there. I wear it alone or with Lime Crime Diamond Crushers on top of it. Occasionally I use it to top another lipstick, but to me, that usually mutes it too much.

You are not out there – that’s awesome! It’s made to wear alone, and it’s a really cool look, but I did want to get creative with different ways to use it. I, personally, am such a nude/matte lip lover that this lipstick was almost “too much” for me. Haha, and that’s just me! I am sure it looks awesome on you!! Rock it!! <3
