This time of year is so fun and exciting for makeup lovers. New products are popping up everywhere, especially in the drugstore! I picked up a few items from Walgreens last month — the ones that caught my attention the most — and have been trying them. Want to hear if these items are worth looking into for yourself? Great, let’s get to it then! ๐
L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Glosses
Retail: $9.99
First off, I found these products in the new section at Walgreens, but I’ve also found some reviews on these items from months ago. So I’m not sure if they just added colors to the line or if this line came out as a limited edition collection before, and is now permanent. I don’t think I’ve ever noticed these at the drugstore before. If you can solve this mystery for me, let me know below!
I purchase three colors from this collection; Statement Nude, Nude Allude, and Forbidden Kiss. I wasn’t sure what to expect with this ‘matte gloss’ — those two words seem to contradict each other — but I was at least wanting it to appear matte and be long wearing (it is part of the ‘infallible’ line). And it exceeded my expectations! Now, as you’ll see from the picture, there is a sheen to these lip glosses when you apply them. But, in person, it doesn’t look that glossy, more like a very pigmented lipstick. However! I discovered that if you dab at your lips once with a tissue, it makes them totally matte. Good tip to keep in mind ๐
These glosses are extremely comfortable on the lips and glide on like a dream. They have a slightly thick, mousse consistency to them, but they don’t slide around on your lips at all. I think these matte glosses will be perfect for the gal who struggles with dry, flaky lips, but wants to wear a matte lip. I’ve really been struggling with dry lips ever since the birth of my little girl, but as you can see, my lips don’t look flaky or dehydrated. These lip glosses have a distinct fragrance to them — a minty type of scent. I find it really pleasant, but if you don’t like fragrances, I did notice that it doesn’t linger on the lips.
Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free All-in-1 ABC Cushion Foundation, SPF 50
Retail: $16.99
I really, really wanted to like this foundation — and I tried really hard to make it work. I mean, come on, just look at the packaging. SO. STINKING. CUTE. However….I just couldn’t! ๐ The first strike against it was the fact that it only came in 3 shades. I purchased both light and light/medium to see which would work for me…and neither did! Light was too light and pinky on me and light/medium was far too dark. *sad face* For the sake of reviewing it, I did wear it a few days around the house and I felt like it just didn’t give me much coverage and didn’t last very long. It’s great that it has SPF 50, but I would recommend just getting the It Cosmetic CC Cream — it has the same amount of SPF and far better coverage! So…yeah, I found this cushion foundation to be a big disappointment for me. ๐
Milani Moisture Lock Coconut Oil Infused Lip Treatment
Retail: $7.99
I was really intrigued by this new line from Milani — a lip treatment that has coconut oil in it and several different fun, bright colors! I picked up Protecting Pomegranate. Okay, first off…look at that applicator! Holy cow, it’s gigantic! And I found that it was so large, it really wouldn’t keep much product on it — whenever I applied it to my lips I had to go back in at least once to get a nice coverage on my lips. And there is no color. I picked the brightest in the line, and I could only detect a faint pinky hue on my lips, so that’s another big let-down. And the third strike against it…I didn’t notice that it helped my lips at all. Granted, I’ve been going through a period of extreme dry lips, but when it was on my lips it just didn’t feel moisturizing (and it felt kind of sticky, like an annoying gloss, not balmy and comfortable) and when it wore off (which didn’t take long) I didn’t feel like my lips were any more moisturized. So, sadly, this was returned and I’m going to be sticking with my favorite SoftLips Cube!
Burt’s Bees Lipstick
Retail: $8.99
Last item, I have one of Burt’s Bees new lipsticks in the shade Suede Splash. I picked this up totally for the packaging — it’s so cute! It feels very lightweight and ‘cheap’, though I don’t say that in a bad way. ๐ As I’ve mentioned several times, I have very dry lips right now and wasn’t sure how this lipstick would apply and look on me. In short — it exceeded my expectations!
Not only did it glide on like a dream, but it wore very well on my lips and was extremely comfortable. When my lips were very flaky it wouldn’t camouflage the flakes, but it didn’t exaggerate them either. And it helped to add a bit more moisture to them while giving me the color I wanted. The color isn’t crazy opaque, but easy to build. I highly recommend giving these lipsticks a try! I can’t wait to pick up more shades!
And those are all the new releases that I’ve picked up from the drugstore recently! What have you tried? Give me some recommendations! I plan to pick up some more new items…maybe I’ll do a “What’s New at the Drugstore: Part 2”. ๐
