I’ve thought about getting my eyebrows waxed and shaped several times over the past few years — both considering doing it myself and going to get it done professionally. But I’ve always been kind of scared to! Brows are a pretty important part of your face and if you mess those up…ehh, it could be a rough few months waiting for it to grow back! But it was finally time to get the courage and put the well-being of my brows in Waxing The City’s expert and professional hands — because I certainly didn’t trust them in my own hands! 😛

A Little Bit About Waxing The City
At the thought of letting someone have free reign with my brows I decided to do some research on Waxing The City before I agreed to do this sponsored post. Yes, my fears over having my brows waxed was that intense. 😛 Why did I choose waxing as the option to clean up my brows? It’s definitely my preferred method to remove unwanted hairs — Did you know that when waxing is done consistently, hair grows back slower, finer, and sparser, giving you better long-term results? And a good brow shaping does more than just groom stray hairs — it can really brighten up your whole face.
Founded in 2003, in the trendy LoDo neighborhood of Denver, Colorado, Waxing The City grew from a one-room studio, to a regional phenomenon. In the early years, clients would drive for hours for the unrivaled waxing services at Waxing The City.
Waxing The City’s licensed estheticians (called Cerologists) are eyebrow experts, so rest assured they’ll make your brow goals a reality. Plus, they offer a full line of brow products to enhance your existing beautiful brows. If you were like me, you might wonder why Waxing The City’s waxing experts are called Cerologist. They combined “cera” (Latin for wax) with “ologist” (to indicate their level of education and expertise) to create their own word because their estheticians go through week long, hands on training.
With all that, I do want to let you know that Waxing The City is here with an offer that’s hard to refuse! First time customers get 50% off any service. Call or book an appointment with Waxing The City so you can enjoy a hair-free, care-free summer!
My Brow History
So once when I was 15 I got my eyebrows waxed at a nail salon — it wasn’t anything special, no real shaping or anything. Just waxed the stray hairs and removed my unibrow. And that’s it, as far as professional brow care. I’ve always plucked the stray hairs and trim the longer ones, but I was always too scared to do much more for myself. So I really didn’t know what to expect when I went to Waxing The City for my brow shaping appointment…but I was excited to see what the specialist could do for me!
When I Arrived at Waxing The City
When I showed up for my appointment — since this was my first time visiting Waxing The City — I had a few pieces of paper to read through and fill out, and then I was able to wander around the lobby of the studio while I waited. There were a lot of products ranging from makeup, to body care, to candles. I arrived at the studio about 20 minutes early, but I felt like I only waited 5 minutes before my Cerologist, Alyssa, came out to bring me back to the room.
Prepping for My Waxing
In the room there was a very cozy set up with all the waxing supplies set up next to a cushioned table that had a sterilized sheet over it. They had a little stool to set my personal items on and once I was all set I laid on the table. Alyssa then talked over the paperwork I had filled out earlier, and I was impressed how thorough she was. For example, I had put down that I use a topical prescription medication and she addressed that the medication causes my skin to be a bit thinner on my face and because of that, she wanted to do a patch test before doing the waxing. I wasn’t concerned — I’ve waxed my brow hairs in the past — but I was very thankful she was taking cautionary measures to ensure my well being.
My Cerologist
I loved Alyssa! She was very sweet, set me at ease immediately, and extremely knowledgeable. I asked her a variety of questions and she answered each one of them very thoroughly. One of the fears I had about getting my brows shaped was that they would do something drastic — like totally change the arch of my brows or make them too thin for my face and what I am used to. But Alyssa relieved all my fears. We talked through how my brows were very thick and full and naturally didn’t have much of an arch to them. And she wanted to keep it that way — the brow shaping that she wanted to do would only even up the brows and enhance their natural arch. Which was exactly what I had hoped for!
The Wax
The wax that she used for my brow shaping was a hard wax — which she explained to me it was gentler than soft wax (that you use with a muslin cloth) and is ideal to use on the thin and tender skin around the eyes. The temperature of the wax was perfect and Alyssa was very soothing after she removed each of the wax strips. Not only did she place a finger over the area immediately after removing the wax, but she also seemed to gentle massage the area at the same time, making any discomfort from the hair removal disappear immediately. I really appreciated that extra step she took.
Filling In My Brows
Once the wax was removed she massaged a soothing lotion around the area and then talked through the products she would use to fill in my brows. She completed one brow and then handed me a mirror so that I could watch as she walked me through the other brow. She used a warm brown brow pencil at first to line my brows and then finished it off with some powder. She suggested other steps that I could add to my routine — such as cleaning the area underneath the brow with some concealer — that I appreciated and she did offer to demonstrate it on my brows. But since I didn’t have a full face of makeup on, and had a fun day planned with my family, I chose not to.
The Results
And these are my results — my before and after! I am beyond thrilled and pleased with what Alyssa did to my brows. I only wish I could fill them in as well as she did — I’ve filled in my brows a few times since and it’s never as good as when she did it. But Alyssa gave me a lot of pointers on how to fill in my brows properly and I will keep practicing! 🙂
What Do I Think of My Experience
It was the most enjoyable experience I could’ve ever anticipated — which is a lot to say when you are talking about waxing hair out of your body. You would think that would be painful! But seriously, Alyssa was so gentle and talented I almost didn’t even notice the hair being removed! I loved how much attention to detail she gave my brows — I didn’t time my appointment to see how long it took, but it was definitely over half an hour. And just for my brows! From my previous experience as a teen I thought it would be under 10 minutes. It’s just my two little brows, it can’t take that long, right?
Nope! She took her time and gave me the most amazing brow waxing experience than I could’ve ever asked for! I really felt well cared for by her as a client. She took her time and made my brows look amazing and totally compliment my face.

I haven’t had my brows waxed for years! Mine are so fair I think it’s more difficult for the beautician anyway.

I need eye brow intervention. I’ve never gotten them done, I’ve tweezed myself since I was in my teens. I need to find place that can help me.

I’ve been getting my eyebrows waxed since I was in high school … I had one really bad experience at a stand alone counter and it took a year to regrow but I’m back and have someone I trust a lot. I checked out the site but there isn’t one near me yet but I’ll keep looking!

I haven’t ever waxed my brows since mine are naturally thinner, but reading your experience was lovely!

A few years ago I’d watch one of the manicurist do so many brows so I finally decided to let her do mine. Big mistake. She took off so much that I felt awful. And it took years to grow back in. I did have another waxing done a few years ago because I was in a wheelchair from an accident and couldn’t get upstairs to my bathroom. That cleaned me up nicely. But I’ve never had such a thorough job as you did. Your brows look terrific.

Back in the day I use to get my brows waxed but have since gone over to the threading side of hair removal. I might have to see if there are any locations near me, your experience sounded so nice!

I’ve had my brows waxed a few times, but every time I end up breaking out around my eyebrows a few days later and looking terrible. I just gave up after my last experience and just pluck them. It sounds like you had a great experience!

Btw, you have such beautiful eyes 🙂
