You guys know I am a self-declared makeup junkie…it’s obvious if you’ve seen any of my makeup declutter videos! But when it comes to being a beauty junkie on the go, I seriously fail at it! I hardly ever touch up my makeup, or remember to bring along a ‘lipstick of the day’ to reapply. Maybe it’s because I’m a mom and I always have a thousand other things on my mind when I am not at home…but to be honest, I was this way before Olivia came along. With all that said, though, there are a handful of things I DO keep — and use regularly — from my purse that I feel like any woman would benefit from having in their purse. Even if you’re not a makeup junkie — so take this list as tips for the more practical makeup addict. π

5 Purse Essentials Every (Practical) Makeup Junkie Needs
1. Nail “Emergency” Kit
Boxycharm just recently included this little kit in one of their boxes — watch my review HERE — but you don’t specifically need to have this specific emergency nail kit from ncLA. I just highly, highly recommend that you throw some type of nail kit into your purse. I can’t count how many times I have broken a nail, noticed a hang nail, or even snag my clothes when I am away from home. And this little kit is perfect! Trust me when I say that even if you aren’t big into makeup, you will still find yourself using this kit in an ’emergency’ when you’re away from the comforts of your home!
2. Herpecin L Lip Balm
A lip balm is a must, especially as the weather continues to get colder. And for me, Herpecin L is my purse lip balm of choice. If you missed my previous post, check it out here to read my tips and tricks to dealing with cold sores, but even if you don’t get cold sores frequently, Herpecin L is great at keeping your lips super moisturized and soft. There are many days where I leave the house without a stitch of makeup on…but I hate not putting a lip balm on my lips. I’m always dealing with dry lips, so I try to keep something on them at all times — and having this little (and affordable!) Herpecin L tucked away in the side pocket of my purse has been so handy. I can just reach over and swipe it on my lips while waiting at a stop light!
3. Q-Tips
I feel like everyone knows about the magic of the Q-Tip…but just in case you don’t, let me encourage you to include a few Q-Tips inside your nail emergency kit. I don’t use these as often, but there have been a few occasions were I either notice the black liner pooling at either my inner or outer corners and this little tool is perfect for swiping it away without smearing black everywhere. It’s also great if you want to wipe off the rest of your lipstick without disturbing the foundation around your mouth. Or if you have mascara smudged underneath your lashes….there are just SO many reasons to keep a few Q-Tips handy in your purse!
4. Lipgloss
Okay, so on the days when I do leave the house with a full face of makeup on…I still, 9 times out of 10, get in the car and leave without thinking to bring a lipstick or liquid lipstick with me to put on my lips. It just doesn’t rank high enough in my priorities of things to bring when I am packaging up the car. π So keeping some type of soft lipgloss in my purse has come in so handy! This one in particular is a Buxom lipgloss that gives me just a bit of color to bring some life to my lips and will match my makeup look for the day — no matter if I am super casual or totally glam’ed up. This is the one beauty essential product that I reach for and use the most from my purse!
5. Travel-Container for Translucent Powder
This one is a bit of a bonus item — mainly because it’s not something I really keep and use in my purse personally. But I do know a lot of people like to be able to powder or blot their face halfway through the day, especially if you’re someone who works outside the home and want your makeup to stay looking fresh from morning till night! I actually kinda bashed the price of this product in my Makeup Monthly Reviews for November, which is why I HAD to include it in this post and inform you of a reason why this pricey little powder would be worth the purchase!
If you are someone who needs to blot and powder throughout the day, I highly recommend you check out and purchase this Quick Fix powder from Pixi Beauty! While you do pay a steep price for the amount of product you get…once you go through the Pixi powder you can refill it with your favorite translucent powder and still be able to get the benefits of this travel, on-the-go powder container! So yeah, a bit of an investment initially, but then you have the handy travel powder container for life!
The sponge on the top has a small hole underneath so you can just tap and buff it lightly over your face to freshen up your makeup and look good to go in seconds! And since it’s such a small little jar it’s really easy to throw in your purse to freshen up at the office…or just for one of those makeup emergency moments!
And those are my Top 5 Purse Essentials!
Nothing too fancy..at least, I don’t think so, lol. But I’d love to hear what you like to keep in your purse for those makeup emergencies. π Have you tried Herpecin L? If not, what’s your favorite lip balm of choice to keep in your purse during the winter?Β Because who has time for flaky lips, right?!

Okay I immediately was intrigued by the Herpecin L I have never heard of it. But my oldest son he’s 9 and gets the worst cold sores and chapped lips …well mainly above and below his lips he tends to lick and suck on them which dries them out. I need to def get some. It’s funny I am exactly the same way when it comes to touching up my makeup throughout the day…I just never have done it im not sure why either… my 2 yr old needs are most likely why lol. I looked in my purse and I had 3 things ,beauty wise.. lip gloss , a lip pencil, and a small travel perfume spray(sample size) but I think I need to switch it up and the nail kit is GENIUS!!.
Katie Marie says
Aww, poor guy — my younger sister used to get those types of cold sores. Both above and below her lips — she licked them a lot, too. She started taking some L-Lyison every day, and using a lip balm constantly, and some Abreva if she got a flair up. And that has helped her a lot as she’s gotten older.
I know, with 2 kids now…if I go out of the house I am mainly focused on not forgetting what I need to do while I am out and about and keeping track of my little ones, lol

Great choices. When I was teaching I always had a concealer, gloss, q-tips, nail file, and blotting powder in my purse. The Herpecin sounds like a great addition.

The Jedi Wife says
I always have a cuticle balm or oil in my purse and my lipstick of the day. I’ll even admit it: the only reason my lipstick comes with me is because I shove it in my bra as soon as I finish applying it so it doesn’t get left behind while I leave the house. #momlife
Katie Marie says
HAHA! But seriously, if I don’t do that I would NEVER reapply my lipstick of the day!
fairytalesnails says
I have to agree with most of these, especially the cuticle oil I don’t go anywhere without one. Even if I don’t have a bag I pop some in my pocket.
Katie Marie says
I really need to get into the habit of using cuticle oils!

Out of those 5 things I only carry lip gloss and lip balm (though not the herpecinl brand).
