I’ve heard about the PMD (Personal MicroDermabrasion) for years and have always been curious….would it really make a difference? The claims sound so amazing — I know I’m only 25 years old, but I have some acne scars, hyperpigmentation, and enlarged pores I would love to see fade and smooth over! And I am a FIRM believer in starting anti-aging skincare as soon as possible. ๐ I was excited when I was given the opportunity to try out PMD…and bring y’all along with me to experience the REAL results!
A REAL Beginners Guide To Using Your PMD MicroDerm
This post is sponsored by PMD via the PRIMP Network
Okay, so this will be a two-part sponsored post — today I’m just going to be sharing with you 5 practical tips from a “real, every day girl” that I noticed the first time I used this device (so far I’ve used it twice). And then I will continue to use this as often as recommended (once a week) and bring you my real results sometime next month — with before and after pictures! ๐ That’ll give me over a month to try out this product and really see what this can do for me!
If you don’t want to wait till my updated results post, and you’d like to get this device to try out, I do have a code for you! The PMD MicroDerm retails for $159…so it’s definitely an investment! But use the code PRIMP20 at checkout and it’ll give you 20% off! Because who doesn’t like to save some money when they can, am I right?! ๐
5 Tips to Using Your Personal MicroDermabrasion
Tip 1: Read ALL the Directions Carefully
I know this one seems to go without saying…but if you’re anything like me…yeah, this tip NEEDS to be said! lol! I am SO bad at taking the time to read instructions — especially when the instructions are more than a sentence or two. ๐ I’m just lazy, I guess. When I received this, after browsing through the little instruction card (and ignoring the recommendation to watch their “How To” video) I went to use this on my face. I did one swipe, set the device down, and grabbed my phone to watch the video!!
LOL! I’m serious! Take the time to watch the video — watch it a few times, like I did. The suction on the PMD MicroDerm is no joke and you don’t want to be moving too slow or leaving it in one spot too long. I’m trying to improve the skin’s texture, not destroy it! ๐ So, yeah, take the time to watch the video and see how quickly they move…and then be prepared for it to still be harder to do on yourself than the model makes it seem. ๐
Tip 2: Be Prepared for the Noise & Suction
The first time I turned this on, the volume of the PMD MicroDerm surprised me. Not that it sounded like a food blender, but it kinda reminds me of an electric razor. I half expected my husband to walk in that first time to see if I was shaving my face or something. ๐ Not that the volume is a bad thing — I just don’t remember anyone mentioning the volume, so wanted to give you a heads up.
And then, that suction…girl! I was surprised at how strong it was! I don’t know why, but all the videos I saw of it being used before I tried it, it didn’t seem that intense. But the suction is strong and quick! Again, not saying this is a con to the product or anything to be worried about — but it just took me a little by surprise that first time. ๐
Tip 3: Don’t Expect to Master The Technique the First Time
I don’t know why I expected this device to be so easy to use, but it’s actually a bit trickier than I expected. The first time I used this I’m pretty sure I missed a quarter of my face with the amount of times I accidentally broke the suction when going around the curves of my face, or just swept too wide and missed a few spots. It is nice that the PMD MicroDerm leaves your face a little pink/red. It’s kinda like when you vacuum the carpet and you can see the lines were you’ve been. ๐ So yeah, the first time I used this I looked like a tiger — lots of gaps in the red on my face where I missed areas ๐
The second time I used my Personal MicroDerm I had a much better success rate — my whole face was red, except one spot on my forehead. Not sure if it’s just because I have a small and very rounded forehead…but I had a bit of trouble keeping the suction there. But yeah, all that to say, don’t be too hard on yourself if you look more like a red-striped tiger the first time you use the PMD MicroDerm instead of a red tomato. ๐
Tip 4: Have a Few Recovery Masks On Hand
I don’t have very sensitive skin when it comes to skincare products that I use on my face — I’m always exfoliating, using mud masks, and enzyme polishes and I never really get any irritation after using them. As I said, with the PMD MicroDerm the areas that I went over my face with it do turn a little red…pink, would be more accurate I suppose. And it’s gone within 10 minutes. With all that said, though, if your skin is easily irritated or more sensitive, I definitely think using one of these Recovery masks after a treatment would be a really great idea! Especially if you deal with dry skin to begin with — I feel you might have a few issues when you first start using this product — and a moisturizing face mask like this would an ideal way to treat your skin and help things run smoothly as you begin your PMD MicroDerm experience!
Tip 5: Don’t Expect Results Immediately
I know they say you can see results after one use…but, as I already said, these tips are the things *I* noticed after using the PMD MicroDerm device twice…and I really can’t see a difference yet. Again, I’m only 25…I really don’t have wrinkles or anything like that where I would see a drastic difference right away. I took a close look at my face this morning and can still see my acne scars, enlarged pores, and hyperpigmentation…so yeah, I think I’ll have to wait till our wrap-up post to look and see the true results.
But that’s not to say this device isn’t working! I am a big believer that when it comes to seeing results in skincare, you really do need to give it the time to work before judging it. So stay tuned! But if you start using this device before my next post…just know that if you don’t see immediate results, it’s okay. ๐
Have You Tried the PMD MicroDerm?
I’d love to hear about your experience! Especially as I continue to use my Personal Microderm. I do want to clarify that I didn’t write this post to say that the claims/instructions the PMD provides beginners isn’t helpful or honest. It totally is! But these 5 tips are the things that really stood out to me the first time I used my PMD MicroDerm, and I wanted to share with you all.

What a really great a thorough review! I appreciate the realness and the tips! And you’re right, we can’t always expect instant results. Skin takes time to heal and get healthier. I would imagine one (instant) result would be softer skin at least right? That’s one thing I love about exfoliating products. However I’m not sure how different that is to Microderm. Anywho, i can’t wait to see the update!

Iโll be honest – I tried it years ago and didnโt think it did any good. However now Iโm older and know that my face needs some cleansing and I want to try it again!

Great tips – I like that you gave us a heads up on what to expect and what to be prepared for. I need to care more for my skin as I age and this is something I’d think about investing in.

I’ve tried a lot of facial machines and it’s hard to keep it even and not miss spots. I am fascinated by this and would love to try it.

this looks like an interesting contraption. I’m not quite at the point where I want to use anything like this because I’m happy with scrubs right now.

This looks like a seriously cool gadget. How nice that there are relief masks, too — I love a nice aloe sheet mask after a treatment like this!

I bought a PMD for my acne scarring, but my derm took over with microneedling RF so I haven’t tried it out yet.
