BareMinerals was always a brand I skipped over when perusing the aisles at my local Ulta or Sephora…and I honestly don’t know why. Maybe because BareMinerals seemed to cater more to people who like light, natural makeup? Y’all know I am like, “full coverage or why bother?” ๐ But, regardless of why, I was excited when they reached out to me and asked if they could send me a few products from their BareMinerals barePro line to try out. I am always up for trying a new brand…and in this case, I am so glad I got the opportunity because I will no longer be passing over this brand on future Ulta or Sephora trips. ๐
BareMinerals barePro Performance Wear Collection
Combo Control Milky-Face Primer || Price: $26
Y’all know I struggle with excessively oily skin here in Virginia, so I always make sure I start my day with a good primer underneath to give my foundation the help it sometimes needs to survive through a whole day. Per usual with face primers you receive one fluid ounce and I really don’t think the price is that high for a highend primer.
Especially as I’ve tested this beauty out — it does a great job of giving me a smooth base to apply my foundation on top of and controlling my oils throughout the day. I find that I still like to apply a heavy-duty mattifying primer right to the center of my face after this primer — remember, though, I have very oily skin — but this has become my go-to primer to apply all over my face afterwards.
The consistency and feel is almost like a moisturizer (very “milky”, as the name suggests), which I love and think helps to keep my skin hydrated and looking healthy. Using this primer alone on top of a regular foundation (one that does not help control oils) it doesn’t hold up throughout a very long day. But, paired with, say, my newest love (Estee Lauder Double Wear), it does a fantastic job and I love the combination!
Bottom Line: Would I Repurchase? Yes, I can totally see myself repurchasing this after I finish. It’s a very nice primer that not only helps with my oily skin, but also feels moisturizing. Which isn’t easy to find/like for my greasy skin. And the price really isn’t that bad!
barePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundations || Price: $34
I’ve been seeing mixed reviews on this product, but I, personally, have had a really good experience using it! It did take me a few applications to discover the best way to apply this. In the end, my favorite way to apply this BareMinerals barePro foundation is with my beauty blender. A brush can apply it a bit too heavily so that you can really feel the foundation on your face throughout the day.
But applying with a sponge I don’t mind the feel of this on my face. It isn’t the most light-weight, but it doesn’t feel cakey. It settles down nicely into my skin and doesn’t transfer onto clothing easily. One thing to note is that while this foundation can feel like a full coverage formula on your face, I would say this is more medium coverage. It does a fantastic job of evening out the blotchy red and hyperpigmentation in my face, but if I want everything covered I do have to follow up with a concealer.
Longevity is fantastic. Paired with a good primer (my favorite is the Combo Control with the MUFE Step 1: Mattifying) this will hold up very well during a 10-12 hour day. The first place this starts to wear down is my nose. Even though I am done testing this foundation out, I have still found myself reaching for it on the daily — it’s become my go-to every day foundation choice!
Bottom Line: Would I Repurchase? I don’t repurchase a foundations often, but I could see myself falling in love with this foundation just as much as my UD Naked Skin foundation….so yes, I could see myself repurchasing in the future! Plus, BIG bonus, this comes with a very nice pump!
Luxe Performance Brush || Price: $30
This is like a paddle foundation brush with a bit of a twist. I know it’s hard to see in the photo, but it has a slant to the bristles, which is supposed to make it better than your standard paddle brush. But, in short, I just didn’t like this brush for applying foundation. Maybe it’s because I (personally) hate using paddle foundation brushes….but I just didn’t jive with this brush.
Especially when I tried to use it with the BareMinerals barePro foundation they sent me — it applied that foundation way too thick and give me a very cakey application/look. Maybe this would work out better to use with a sheer foundation….but I typically wear full coverage foundations, so it just doesn’t work for my makeup needs/preferences.
Bottom Line: Would I Repurchase? No…I had to force myself to use this brush 4-5 times to give it a fair testing, but since then I haven’t reached for it at all.
barePro Contour Palette: Tan-to-Dark || Price: $34
Y’all know I am a fan of bronzing/contouring, so I was most excited to get this baby in my pr package! ๐ I like that this palette only had three different shades — because I find that I use all three when doing my makeup. Unlike some contour/bronzing palettes (that give me six different shades and I only use two, maybe), since this is in my “shade range” I find that all three shades work very nicely for my skin. I don’t know about you…but I like/prefer that I am able to put every shade in this palette to use on my face!
Quality-wise, this is a fantastic palette! Very butter, super easy to blend, and nicely pigmented. Most days I will admit I forget to use the under eye setting powder because I don’t reach for this palette until after I have powdered my face and am ready to contour (lol!), but I have used it a few times and thought it worked well.
Bottom Line: Would I Repurchase? Yes! I think if I lost all my contour palettes tomorrow, I wouldn’t worry about repurchasing them and just go get this palette. I love that all three shades work for my skintone and I know I will get good use out of the entire palette. There are only two different “shade options” for this palette, but hopefully they will expand in the future!
Blooming Blush Brush || Price: $24
I love a good angled blush/contour brush, so had high hopes for this baby! But…it all fell pretty flat once I started using this. It feels pretty scratchy on the face — especially for a high-end, more expensive brush. When I used it with the Bare Minerals barePro contour palette, I found that I would have issues blending out my contour. Once I stopped using this brush, however, I had no problems. That’s pretty telling, in my opinion!
Maybe it would work well for applying blush, since I go pretty neutral with my blush colors…but I really don’t think a brush at this pricetag should feel scratchy on the face. :-/
Bottom Line: Would I Repurchase? No…there are cheaper, drugstore alternatives that feel better and apply product more smoothly than this brush. I can’t recommend. And this prom gown from jojobride is gorgeous!
I Mentioned All These BareMinerals BarePro Products In my August Favorites!
If you prefer to listen to my thoughts, I mentioned all the products in my August Monthly Makeup Reviews — I was still in the middle of testing them out the end of August, so my thoughts are not as complete/in-depth…but overall they’re still accurate. ๐
Those Are My Thoughts on BareMinerals barePro!
As I said in the beginning, BareMinerals was always a brand I just glossed over — but not anymore! I am falling in love with that contour palette and even though I am done testing out the foundation for this review…I am still reaching for it! Now that I’ve tried these products out from the BareMinerals barepro line, I can’t wait to try more from them! Maybe an eyeshadow palette…? ๐

My eye was immediately drawn to the brushes so Iโm sad to see they arenโt worth it! But I also just got some new ones recently and need to not be brush happy!

I know, I always get excited for makeup brushes, too, but these were a big let down ๐

that foundation has been sitting idle on my cart for weeks! I’ve read mixed reveiws that’s why
Katie Marie says
I know, I’ve read a lot of negative reviews for it, too! But I really don’t get why…I find it really, really nice! I have very oily skin, tho, and I almost always apply it with a damp sponge.

You’d love their eyeshadow palettes – at least I do. I’ve bought quite a few of them and I enjoy them a lot. I’d love to try that foundation. I love to have a variety of foundations and this sounds like it would be a great one. I hope I can get a sample of it at Sephora one day.
Katie Marie says
I have been eyeing their palettes for years, but never bit the bullet. Maybe I will this holiday season! ๐

I’m testing these out tomorrow! I will keep tour thoughts in mind to see if I run into the same issues ?
Katie Marie says
Hope it works for you! I am still reaching for it, even though I’m done testing it. My favorite way to apply is definitely with a beauty blender, but it’s been a great every-day-foundation for me ๐ Thanks for stopping by girl <3

I love that contour palette!!! Iโve always wanted try Bare Minerals, I remember all those late night commercials when I was a kid.
Katie Marie says
It is SUCH a great palette, and I love that it only has three shades — I don’t feel as wasteful as I do with palettes that have 6 or 8!

I’ve never used BareMinerals before, but I’m strictly a mineral powder foundation girl, so I don’t know why! Nice review ๐

I admit I had overlooked their foundation but have heard wonderful things about their eyeshadows.

I want to try their eyeshadows next!

Like you, I tend to walk past them as well, though I have a cousin who swears by the Moxie lippies. I want to buy their starter kit – it looks very interesting.
Katie Marie says
I always hear about their moxie lippies, too, but never gave them a try because I typically am not into sheer lipglosses. But I just got a Buxom lipgloss that I LOVE….so I may need to give the Moxie’s a try!
