Skincare can be tricky when you are pregnant — so many ingredients that are in skincare are not safe for your growing child, or there isn’t enough studies to know if it’s safe. And if you’re anything like me…your skin freaks out for the first few months. Ah, thank you hormones! But today I have 5 skincare products from Colleen Rothschild that are not only safe to use while pregnant (or nursing!), but they’ve also been improving my skin texture and giving me that “glow” we all crave when pregnant. 🙂
What Acne-Fighting Skincare Ingredients You Should AVOID When Pregnant
Before we dive into the skincare routine that I’ve been using, I did want to mention the most obvious acne-fighting skincare ingredients that you should avoid while pregnant.
- Accutane
- Retin-A
- Benzoyl peroxide
- BHAs (beta-hydroxy acid)

Skincare Routine for Expecting Mothers
PRIMP Network also gave me a nice perk to share with you all: get 20% off your purchase at colleenrothschild.com with code CRSKin20!
Colleen Rothschild is a luxurious skincare brand that combines over 20 years of experience to bring you skincare that is effortless, beautiful, and highly effective. Plus — bonus for expecting mothers — all the ingredients they use in their products are listed on their website for easy reference. I’ve already combed through their products and found the skincare products that I could safely use while pregnant, so let’s dive into the first product!
Radiant Cleansing Balm || Retail: $65
If your skin has been feeling parched or dull, this cleansing balm will revive your skin from the first use! And it is filled with fantastic (and pregnant-safe!) ingredients such as moringa oil to help restore luminosity to the skin. Black see oil helps give you antioxidant protection and lipexel combats dehydration — which oily, acne-prone skin can deal with. Especially during pregnancy. This cult-classic product from Colleen Rothschild starts as a hard solid that you scoop out and melts almost instantly as you massage it into your dry skin. It feel so nice on the skin and after it’s washed away, it leaves your skin feel hydrated — not stripped or dry at all! The only draw back to this product is that it does not remove my waterproof mascara or eyeliner completely — but since I always follow up with an eye makeup remover, it’s not a big deal to me.
Dual Enzyme Polish || Retail Price: $55
I typically used BHA’s to exfoliate my skin, but with pregnancy those are no longer an option for me. So with this exfoliating polish I was really looking for something that will give my skin the exfoliation that it needs without feeling like I’m scrubbing my skin off. And this enzyme polish from Colleen Rothschild totally delivered!
The fruit enzymes help accelerate exfoliation and the AHA both refines and resurfaces. The microspheres in the polish are extremely fine and gentle, which I was very pleased with. And my skin just felt and looked amazing after using this! While all of these products have helped give my face that “pregnancy glow”, I really think this one is the true hero product in giving me that glow. I only use this about once a week (it says you can use it up to twice a week) but I look forward to using it each week!
Mandelic Acid Radiance Serum || Retail Price: $75
I’d never heard of mandelic acid, so this serum really intrigued me. Having mandelic acid in your skincare helps to refine and resurface the skin — and this serum also includes lactic acid to improve the tone and texture of the skin. I’ve been using it at night and been loving the way it feels! It sinks in almost instantly and there is no residue or oily feeling that is left behind. This product is filled with so many natural fruit ingredients — like apple, pomegranate, acai, goji, orange, and lemon — which help to deliver much-needed antioxidants and peptides for radiant, healthy skin. I can’t wait to experience the long-term benefits of using this serum!
I do want to mention that this serum does contain salicylic acid, which is on some list of ingredients to avoid when pregnant. The main reason it is on the lists is because there is not enough studies yet to prove if it’s safe or not. The reason I think that this serum is safe to use is because salicylic acid is pretty well down on the list of ingredients. Please do your own research on salicylic acid and determine for yourself if this product is a good fit for you…but for me, I deem this product safe.
Daily Defense SPF 25 Lightweight Fluid || Retail Price: $32
I’ve always been on the look out for a good sun protectant — and it’s especially important when you are pregnant to watch your sun exposure! — and have yet to find one that gives me the protection I need without making me feel greasy or make me look like a ghost. Well, I think I’ve finally found it with Colleen Rothschild! This beauty is made without Parabens, SLS/SLES Sulfates, Phthalates, Triclosan, Formaldehyde, PABA, Toluene, Benzene and instead of all that junk this has a lot of natural extracts to help protect the mama-to-be. The consistency is very liquidly and sinks into the skin almost instantly! For my oily skin, I love that this doesn’t leave any residue or greasy feel once it sinks in. This will definitely be a repurchase for me!
Ultimate Lip Balm || Retail Price: $22
I understand why this is called the “ultimate lip balm”, because it is filled with such fantastic, luxurious ingredients! hyaluronic acid helps plump the skin and mango butter softens and nourishes. If you guys follow me on Snapchat (username: LadyKaty92) you guys know I am always struggling with dry lips — so I am always on the search for a good lip balm. And this one from Colleen Rothschild is a good one! I’ve been applying this at night before bed, and my lips have been looking so great recently. I wake up with them feeling very nourished and hydrated.

Katie Marie says
The serum has been doing great things to get my “pregnancy glow” going!
Courtney B says
I would love to try that cleansing balm but $54 is a bit steep for me. I have another jar about the same size (different brand) and I blow through the stuff every month or so. I wish I could shell out that kind of money, but it’s out of my budget.
Katie Marie says
I totally feel you! It is super expensive! I think if you have very, very dry skin, it would do wonders for you and be worth the investment. But I know for me, since my skin is so oily, I will probably stick to my cheaper cleansing oils in the future. Just because I don’t feel like I need that extra hydration.
Ehmkay Nails says
The cleansing balm sounds amazing!
Katie Marie says

Her products seem fantastic! If they weren’t so pricey I’d have probably tried them by now.

Yes, she really makes great skincare — but the price is painful!
Polarbelle says
This post is going to be really helpful to pg women to know what to use and what ingredients to avoid.
Katie Marie says
It can be so tricky in the beginning, especially if you’re not big on understanding ingredients like me. It took some dedication and research for me 😛
Fairytalesnails says
These sound really lovely, wish I had heard of some of these when I was pregnant x
Katie Marie says
They’ve been doing great things for this mama!
LittleNuclearReactor says
Awesome products! I’ve been hearing more and more about cleaning balms and am intrigued.
Katie Marie says
I am SUCH a die-hard believer in cleaning balms/oils. I really think it has helped my acne-prone skin not get irritated and break out as much as it used to do when I was in my teens and just using makeup removing wipes and soaps
Nina says
I want to try that radiance serum!!! It sounds amazing!!
Katie Marie says
I’ve been LOVING it!
Camilla Evaline says
I love Colleen Rothschild beauty radiant cleansing balm! I’ve been searching for something that left my face feeling soft rather than dried out. This is it.
A friend of mine recommended it and I’m so grateful. I’m 42 and need more moisture in my skin lately, this product helps with that.
I actually enjoy the cleaning cloth and the nice thing is it dries very quickly for the next use.
Katie Marie says
Yes, that is true, the cloth dries so quickly! And it does make it quicker/easier to remove the balm after massaging it into the skin 🙂
Nicky E. says
Hello!
This post reminds me a lot of my pregnancy a few years ago. It really did some changes on my skin, especially the appearance of dark spots. I’m glad there are effective skincare products available in the market already.
I’ve been hearing so much good stuff about Colleen Rothschild, so I think I’m getting a few products for myself! 🙂

Katie Marie says
Yes, it’s amazing how your skin can change when you are pregnant! Colleen Rothschild products are always spoken of as being so amazing…and now that I’ve tried it, I can definitely see why! Her products are so luxurious and rich!
Emily Draher says
I am obsessed with Colleen Rothschild!! The Mendelic Acid serum is my new go-to! While researching if it was safe for use during pregnancy, I read that since mendelic acid has a larger particle size, it doesn’t actually absorb into the skin as readily as some other AHA’s, so it’s great for use while pregnant. I don’t know how true that is, but it made me feel better using it.
Katie Marie says
Oh, that’s very cool — I didn’t know that about the mendelic acid. I just saw that it was a-okay, haha! It’s always nice to get the go-ahead on skincare products that WORK so WELL to improve your skin, it can get dicey when pregnant, lol!
