With a busy life as a full-time wife, mom, and blogger, it’s typically hard for me to keep my makeup vanity clean and organized on a regular basis. This year I made a resolution to do better — and I’m proud to say my methods are working! Because, let’s be real, who wants to do their makeup surrounded by spilled makeup and smudged eyeshadow palettes.
While my vanity isn’t always clean at the end of the day, I make it a point to take the time to do these 5 easy steps at least once a week. It doesn’t take long, and doing these tips helps my vanity from piling up, becoming a chaotic mess, and being a breeding ground for germs. Because, let’s be real, working with makeup can be a messy business!

5 Tips for a Clean Makeup Vanity
1. Straighten Makeup
I use clear acrylic organizers to separate and keep my makeup organized, but most days after I do my makeup I don’t have time to clean up so after a few days the acrylic organizers get pretty empty…and my vanity table gets a mess! So at night, after my little one is in bed and if I have just 5 spare minutes, I like to sit down and put my makeup back in order. With the clear acrylic drawers separating everything neatly, it doesn’t take long to put everything back in its home.
2. Toss Expired Makeup
Expired makeup — especially those that are ‘liquidy’ — can cause all sorts of problems if you continue to use it past its expiration date. I am totally that type to use products past their due date, I admit it, but I am trying to do better at tossing things. It really isn’t worth the risk — I have definitely gotten eye infections in the past because of old products — so now about once a week I look over everything I’ve used the past week (as I am putting them away) and if anything is too old, I toss it.
3. Clean Mirrors
This one seems SO easy…but seriously, I am the worst at it. I will use a mirror that is SO dirty, I’m trying to angle different ways to get a clean view. It’s so sad, lol. So, to prevent that, I keep these Windex under my vanity and on the weekends all I have to do is pull one out and give the mirrors a good cleaning.
These wipes are easy to store and make the job very quick. I grew up using the Windex® Original Glass Cleaner. Thanks to its formulation with Ammonia-D®, Windex® Original Glass Cleaner starts working on fingerprints, dirt, and other messes even before you wipe. And while I still love using that for deep cleaning the bathrooms or my bedroom mirrors, the Windex surface wipes works perfectly to have nearby my vanity.
I found these wipes at my local Kroger, in case you’re wondering. They’re located in the Household section, along with other Windex® products, including the Windex Vinegar Multi-Surface cleaner…which I am going to talk about next!
4. Wipe Down Acrylic Organizers and Makeup
Of all the steps, this is the only one that can get a bit tedious. But it is very rewarding, trust me! I go one drawer at a time, take all the products out, and give the drawer a little spritz with the Windex® Vinegar Multi-Surface Cleaner. I, personally, can’t stand working with vinegar because of the smell — I know it’s really good to use, but I just don’t like it. With Windex® Vinegar Multi-Surface Cleaner, though, the smell is very faint so, in my eyes, I’m still using vinegar to clean…but I don’t have to gag over the smell.
As I start to put my makeup back into the clean drawers, I use the Windex® Vinegar Multi-Surface Cleaner and wipe down the palettes, lipstick tubes, concealer tubes, etc. Because, believe me, these things cake up SO much makeup! They look dirty and gross — but it’s amazing what a little TLC with Windex® can do!
5. Wipe Off Vanity Table
The last step is always to wipe down my vanity table. With all my makeup cleaned and put away, it takes maybe 5 seconds to use the Windex® Vinegar Multi-Surface Cleaner and complete my cleaning session. Then all that’s left is an open and clean surface for me to do my makeup on the next day.
That’s all I do. Keeping up with these 5 steps on a regular basis has really changed my makeup routine. It’s so much more enjoyable and quick to do my makeup in the mornings when I am sitting down at a clean and sanitized vanity.

I’m more of a “clean as I go” person- palettes get wiped off before going back to their homes after I’ve finished my look. I’ve got a little one at home that is all too happy to grab anything he can reach on my desk so I have to stay on top of it, lol! Your vanity looks lovely!

Oh man – it’s so hard to keep organized. I don’t have a vanity so much – I have a drawer in the bathroom. You can imagine how messy that gets…… 😉
I’m going to grab some of that Windex Multi Surface next time I’m at the store – sounds fabulous!

I am not good at keeping my vanity clean. It’s not so bad, my makeup is pretty well organized, but I’ve got a wig from several Halloweens ago that I have no idea how to store, haha. Good tips!

I don’t have a vanity as my house is old and just has pedestal sinks, but those look fantastic for other bathroom cleaning like mirrors and latches!
