Hey beautiful! In light of this past weekends rough ride, I wasn’t able to prepare a post over the weekend. And, honestly, I was so preoccupied with getting my site back that I didn’t even plan what I would write about at the beginning of the week. So I figured I would share with you 5 reasons why some days I feel like I’m a bad beauty blogger.ย This post is written half for therapeutic reasons (feels good to share a more personal side of me) and half for humor purposes (laughter is the best medicine, right?)
I do want to clarify that Samantha March initially did this in a video a few months ago. Iย want to make sure credit for this idea goes to her — go watch her video HERE. If you are not already following her, I HIGHLY suggest you check her channel out. She is a fantastic and very personable vlogger — you’ll feel like your chatting on the bed with your best friend about what you both love. Makeup!
5 Reasons Why I Am a Bad Beauty Blogger
I am NOT Techie
This one is obvious as to why I am a bad beauty blogger. With the malware attack this past weekend, I became full aware of how ignorant I am when it comes to understanding HTML codes, FTP users, cpanel, how to access your blog files remotely, and…the list could go on. I know there are many classes out there, and I’ve read many articles on the subject…but I just haven’t got it yet. And setting aside time to trying to understand it and get familiar with it has always been on the backburner. There is always something else more pressing to get done and…so I still don’t know anything when it comes to website coding. Maybe some day…
I Don’t Have “Insta Brows”
I am blessed with naturally thick brows. Sure, I have one or two sparse areas, but just keeping up with plucking them gives them a nice shape that I like. On a typical day I just run clear mascara through them to keep them in place. I’ve filled in my brows like they do on Instagram before and…while it looks perfect and sharp in closeup eye pictures…I just find it ridiculous in real life. Like I’m from a comic book or something. I have given up trying to have that perfect brow and just work with what I have. I know my instagram eye pictures are not as pretty, but the looks I share are ones that I wear out of the house. No way I am washing off my makeup after recording and pictures — too much wasted time, energy, and makeup for this mama to justify! ๐
I Write Too Much
I am so jealous when I read other beauty bloggers posts and they are able to give a thorough review in just a 300 or 600 word post. How do they do that?? Haha, seriously, I find it so hard to be short and to the point with my words. Like now, I am only halfway through this post and already I am over 500 words. I give up! ๐ I know I am not a total odd ball here, since there are several blogs I read that have lengthy posts. And, personally, I love the long posts! I enjoy reading them as I sip my coffee in the morning or nurse my baby. But I feel like the vast majority of readers prefer short posts. At least, that’s the impression I get from looking at my analytic for my posts, lol.
I have been trying to be more short and sweet with my posts (how am I doing?) but some reviews are just too hard. Too much needs to be said ๐ I’ve even thought of starting a Youtube channel where I could chitchat more with you all. What can I say – I love to ramble! ๐
I Don’t Always Get Into the Hypes or What’s Trendy
This is a big reason why I think I am a bad beauty blogger. The last trend that I could actually embrace and enjoy was the matte liquid lipsticks. The highlighting, metallic lips, and even the strobbing I just…can’t get behind. A little highlight is nice some days, but honestly if I try to get my highlight to show up like it does in those Instagram videos…I feel like the tin man! ๐ฎ And as for metallic lipsticks — if you thought matte lipsticks brought out the lip lines…metallic are even worse! ๐
I try to get into the hypes because it helps grow your following, your reach, and blah, blah, blah…but at the end of the day I just am not passionate about it. And I feel so un-trendy saying that! My ‘job’ is to write about makeup — I’m supposed to be on trend…right? ๐
I’m a Beauty Junkie…that Doesn’t Buy Every New Release
I have lots of makeup addict friends — some who are bloggers, but even more who aren’t — and I will admit I drool over their hauls sometimes. I wish I could grab up every new release, but at the end of the day I do have a business to run. This blog requires more than I ever thought — money-wise — to run smoothly. I am very thankful to get sent pr samples from some brands. And, honestly, if it weren’t for them I would have a hard time having new and in-the-hype products to talk about without my blog costing too much to actually run.
So when products are released, instead of just wanting to rush out to buy and review it first so I can get the most exposure, I have really been trying to think through products before purchasing. Because, let’s get real…brands are releasing new products ALL. YEAR. LONG. And more and more indie brands are becoming popular and moving to the forefronts, making the list of makeup that I haven’t tried — but that are super “trendy” — so long I have no hope of ever catching up!
Oh, and I just have to add..I am also a beauty blogger that has to get a deal. There have only been a handful of times that I have bought something at full value, paid shipping, or didn’t at least get something free. I always wait for when I can get free shipping, there’s a really good sale, or I get a bunch of free products to try. (That’s why I love Ulta so much — I always get tons of free products, rack up points, and have a coupon for at least a few dollars off.)
And…we’re done! lol! I think this is the only post where I am not really sure how to end it. I feel like I went on a little rant. ๐ Thank you for bearing with me, hearing me complain about how I think I’m a bad beauty blogger. Maybe you could relate to me a little bit, too. Let me know, if so, in the comments below!

I can certainly relate to the last two!! I don’t like most trends, and I am VERY Picky about what i spend my money on, makeup wise. Even if I really wanted a new release, I usually just wait until it goes on sale lol I know for a fact it’s going to get marked down soon! On my blog I try to focus more on tips and problem solving than just reviews all the time. That’s become another trend: 100s of people reviewing THE SANE THING lol ?
Love your blog! This post was interesting!

Yes girl, waiting for a good sale is the BEST! And between Sephora and Ulta, if you wait just a little bit you can get 20% off. And that’s BIG for a high end product!
I agree, when something new releases, THE VERY NEXT DAY you can find hundreds of “reviews” already posted on Youtube and even some blogs. I’m sorry, but whenever I hear the reviewer say “This just arrived in the mail today…” I’m always SO skeptical. How can you give the product a test run if you JUST applied it for the first time before jumping on to review it? That is SUCH a bad “trend” that I wish would die. There are so many useless reviews out there now, it’s hard to find people who actually use it a few times, testing under different circumstances, before putting their stamp of approval on it. :-/

I can so totally relate to this post! I definitely don’t keep up with all of the beauty trends. To be fair, not everything looks good on every person, and so I’m not going to over contour or strobe when it makes me look horrible, even if it is the IT thing to do right now. Same with major beauty releases. Everyone is hyped up over the Too Faced Sweet Peach collection, and while it looks nice, I know I probably would only use a couple of the shadows at best. No sense in purchasing things that would feel like money down the drain (I’ve learned my lesson with this one!). I don’t even own any of the Naked Palettes!
In the end, this is exactly why I started branching out from writing about mainly beauty. Giving myself the extra leeway has done wonders for my creativity and my wallet. If someone thinks you’re a bad beauty blogger, they can hit that X button because you don’t need that negative energy anyway! You are perfect just as you are. xx

Yes, that is SO true! And sometimes I think that people forget that. When a new trend comes out, suddenly EVERYONE MUST go crazy for it and start doing it. And it just doesn’t work that way — everyone’s face shape, skin tone, and personalities are so different!
I bought the first Naked palette about a year ago…and have used it MAYBE three times. I just don’t find it to be that good, especially in comparison to the LORAC PRO palettes. And the Naked palettes are hyped to kingdom come!
I’ve thought about expanding from beauty, just a bit. Nothing crazy, but adding in fun content that I find interesting and I’m passionate to write about. We’ll see where this new year takes us! <3

Great article. I can identify so much with some of your points. I am wordy as hell. Why say something with ten words when I can use a thousand? lol
And you are not a bad beauty blogger. ๐

Haha, yes girl! Long posts FTW!! ๐ It’s so funny, after I finish writing a post and I’m rereading it, I’m always taking two or three (often run-on sentences) and condensing them into one short-and-sweet one. ๐ My thoughts can be long-winded I guess!

I’m so not trendy either – I don’t do insta brows, baking, strobing, or even contouring really. I’ve recently been slacking hard on IG, it’s been so tough to stay motivated!

I hear you, girl! I like to think I do ‘realistic makeup’. I just don’t get the insta brows. They look amazing in eye makeup “art” pictures, but all the ones that I see, like, whole face selfie shots…just look SO harsh and not natural. And I am all for natural when it comes to my brows ๐

I hope all is going better in your personal life. We all have stuff we need to take care of which is a priority.
I just wanna say I’m so happy that I found you. You are friendly, great personality and always take time to answer product questions. On top of your many product reviews and all that goes into it.
There are so many bloggers out there, but you are the real thing !!!
Doing real makeup looks you can wear daily !!!
We all are a fan of your blogs/ Instagram .
Looking forward to new products & everything else you do great.

Oh my gosh, girl! Your sweet comment nearly has me in tears — I had to share it on my snapchat because I don’t think anyone has left me such a kind and loving comment on my blog before. <3 <3 <3
I am SO glad you’re enjoying the Instagram tutorials. I wasn’t sure, since I really don’t do creative makeup or crazy makeup hacks. But it’s the makeup I wear throughout the day, and I wanted to stay true to sharing more realistic makeup tutorials. So, thank you for your words, you really built me up today and have given me renewed energy to keep on trucking and working hard to publish quality content. ๐ <3 :-*

Your pin just popped in my feed and made me curious. Girl, if these are the reasons to be a bad beauty blogger then I’m joining the club cause these 5 points match me absolutely too. No clue of HTML, no eyebrows, not a shopping addict and I don’t care what’s trendy lmao! I didn’t know you had problems with hacking your site! I’m so sorry! These kinda things are so annoying and nerve racking! And one more thing: you are a wonderful beauty blogger!
