What matters to you when your period comes calling? For me, it’s makeup! (as is probably obvious from this blog 😛 ) U By Kotex® has challenged me to share with you all what I like to do to get my mind off the cramping, and so today I have a daytime smokey eye tutorial that is super simple to accomplish and quick, too!
My daughter Olivia just hit the 5 month mark and my monthly visitor has already returned! 🙁 What a drag, right? Now that I have to bring out the pads, pain killers, heating pads, and chocolate again, I will also be starting to create makeup looks, too! It’s the best way to distract myself from the war going on in my uterus. 😛 Let me know what you like to do!
It always depends on how I am feeling that month whether I try out a bunch of new makeup or stick with tried-and-true products…and this month I went for the favorites! 😉 Some of these products I’ve reviewed on this blog and others I have not — if you see anything that you’d like to hear my thoughts on, let me know!
I went very simple with my face makeup — light coverage foundation, a bit of contouring, and a very natural-looking blush. For my lips I used a lipstick that is currently discontinued. #whydotheyhavetodiscontinuegoodmakeup
I pulled out my favorite chocolate-brown palette for this eye look and the brush I used is the secret weapon to this easy smokey eye. It makes achieving a smokey eye — and not a black eye — so easy! I highly recommend using a short, domed, tightly-packed, slightly tapered brush.
Okay, enough talk. Let’s get into the tutorial!
Step 1 // Using a creamy color close to your skintone I blended it onto my browbone, down into my crease, and then also took it into the inner corner of my eye slightly.
Step 2 // Taking a shade about 2 tones darker than your own color on a large fluffy brush I warmed up the crease, using it as my transition shade.
Step 3 // Now is when the dense, dome brush comes into play. Using a medium brown shade I gradually blended the color from my outer corner almost into my inner corner. I take my time on this step, getting a nice, even blend of color.
Step 4 // With a smaller, more precise brush I pack a dark, intense brown into the outer corner, creating a slight V. I don’t take it very far up into the crease, though. I want it concentrated mostly on the outer corner and once most of the color is deposited I blend it toward the center of my eye.
Step 5 // Now all there really is to do is go back and forth with the three colors — light, medium, and deep brown — blending them back and forth into each other until it looks the way I want.
Step 6 // Finish the look off with your choice of eyeliner and mascara and you’re done!
The look is completed! At this time I would either return to my couch and my heating pad (that thing does wonders for cramps!) or wash my face and start over. If I had time, that is…being a Mom now, I suppose I won’t have that liberty as much anymore. 🙂

This is a great look! It’s dramatic but very wearable during the day. To answer your question, I feel like I’m lucky that I don’t really suffer a lot of cramps or other annoying symptoms when I’m on my period, so I don’t have any go-to advice. 🙁 I just look forward to being able to wear white pants again!

That is so great that you don’t have bad cramps. I typically would have to take some Tylenol or Motrin when my period first started, or I would wind up in bed curled up in a fetal position! Not my favorite day of the month…
