It’s that time of year again when red lipsticks are making their appearance on the streets and if you’re anything like me, you don’t own just one red lipstick. There are so many different types and shades of red out there, but today I’m just going to share my top 5 favorite red lipsticks that I feel compliment my medium/light, yellow undertone skin the best.
Life Update: For those of you who aren’t following me on Facebook or Instagram, I had my baby girl on December 4th. Everything went well and I am loving my new roll as “mommy”. Because of this new addition to the family, I won’t be having much of a schedule for my blog for the rest of the year. I will still bring you posts (I can’t not talk about beauty!), but they won’t be as frequent as they were before.
If you’re not already signed up for my email subscription, now would be a good time to do that so you’ll be notified when a new post goes live.
To make this post even sweeter, I’m collaborating with a beauty blogger friend of mine again — Anna from over at The Beauty Section! We collaborated on a post earlier this year and had such fun coordinating it that we wanted to do it again. If you aren’t already following The Beauty Section, make sure you stop by her blog after you get to the end of this post. She’s a fantastic, thorough, and enthusiastic beauty blogger!
My Top 5 Red Lipsticks
So here’s an overview of all the red lipsticks swatched together on my arm. I just swatched them twice over my skin to get the pigmentation you see.
Let’s start with the brightest and head to the darkest, shall we?!
Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in Pomegranate
You know I love me some Bite Beauty lipsticks! They’re so moisturizing on the lips, I often find myself reaching for one of these lipsticks whenever I’m having issues with dry lips. And, of course, with winter here I have lots of issues with dry lips. And this shade is just perfect for this time of year, don’t you agree?
Edge Beauty Iconic Lipstick in Fierce
This one is very new to my collection, but I love the glossy-ness of this lipstick. It’s wonderfully pigmented and bright and stays on the lips really well, yet almost looks like a lip gloss. And if you’ve tried these lipsticks out in stores, then you know how neat and edgy their packaging is! In my eyes, for my skintone, this is the classic “Christmas Red” that every girl wants to have in their arsenal of lipsticks.
Milani Amore Matte Lip Creme in 06 Desire
I love to wear liquid lipsticks because they last longer than a typical lipstick and are easier to maintain, in my opinion. This Milani Amore Matte liquid lipstick came out this fall as a limited edition line and was in high demand everywhere. I was thrilled when I was able to get my hands on two from the collection and knew that this color would come in handy this Christmas season. It’s a really beautiful, bold red that feels nice on the lips. Not as drying as some liquid lipsticks I own!
Too Faced Melted Liquid Lipstick in Melted Velvet
Now we’re getting a bit deeper into the reds, but I love a deep, vampy lip color. This one from Too Faced I owned and used last winter, so it was a given that I would include it in my top 5 reds. While not a liquid lipstick that dries to a matte by any means, this formula is really lovely to wear. It’s not drying, has a semi glossy finish, and sticks around on your lips for hours. This is the lipstick I reach for if I know I’m going to be eating a lot because it will stay in place for the most part and is easy to reapply.
Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in Heathers
Last up is the deepest red that I own, and while some might disagree…it’s still a red in my book. Just a vampy red. ๐ I love dark vampy colors and during the fall and winter I feel like I can wear them as often as I want and not look out of place (because, let’s be honest, me and my vampy lips look kind of out of place during the spring when everyone is rocking baby pinks and coral ๐ This Anastasia lipstick dries to a matte finish and sets in place for hours. I think I prefer the feel and wear of the Milani one over this formula, but it’s still a beautiful color that I reach for.
Those are my top 5 red lipsticks! Remember to check out Anna’s Top 5 reds on her blog — she’s a different skintone than I am, so between both of our posts you’ll get a variety of reds to rock this holiday season! Do you own a favorite Christmas red color? Share with me in the comments below!
